Ganga is a transboundary river of asia which flows through india and bangladesh. It originates from the gangotri glacier near the gomukh (uttrakhand). Here it is called bhagirathi. It combine with alaknanda at devpyarag. This combined river is called Ganga. The other tributaries of Alaknanda are dhauliganga, pinder, mandakini, and join it at vishnu prayag ,karan prayag and rudhra prayag respectively. From here on, ganga enters haridwar and then it flows to the south, then south and then east. It then flows through Bangladesh, here it is called padma. There it splits into two distributaries i.e. bhagirathi and hoogly and finally discharge into bay of bengal near sagar island. Ganga has a length of 2,525 km and it passes through uttrakhand (110km), up(1450km), bihar(445), and west bengal(520 km). Ganga river system is the largest in INDIA. It has many left and right bank tributaries.
